Artist Inserts Her Fat Ginger Cat Into Famous Paintings, And The Result Is Hilarious

In case you haven’t seen the previous article about a foot injured kitty Richard Parker visited the art gallery in his home created by the couple in the UK, you can take a look here and pay a close attention to these tiny works of art. All of these were masterfully made by a Russian artist Svetlana Petrova and her ginger tabby cat Zarathustra.

A well-known painting which is combined with a chubby kitty? Her idea is out of this world! She also published a book with the title “FAT CAT ART: Famous Masterpieces Improved by a Ginger Cat with Attitude”. It was neatly translated in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.

To know more about her root inspiration of making a big collection of Zarathustra the cat and the famous historical masterpieces around the world, she expressed: “I met this extremely talented cat when I adopted him after my mother passed away. It was actually Zarathustra who saved me from the subsequent depression.”

“My mom loved the cat so much, and I think that is why he developed such a sensitive personality. He decided himself to become a model and performance artist. He adores posing for photos. He makes such coquettish poses and clever faces as if to say: “Paint me like these French girls…” So I do.” – She continued.

With her skillful ability and her love with the kitty whom her mom used to adore, Petrova has photoshopped about 7000 photos in her computer with all her effort and patient. Speaking about effort, she explained that everything was not really easy as it seemed. To make it both amusing and natural, she had to spend a lot of time on fitting the cat pose with a particular painting.

“He has to fit perfectly into a masterpiece, in position, in expression, and sometimes it takes months to get the right photo. I print my works and paint them, emulating the style of the great masters, to make the cat’s image look very natural in well-known masterpieces.”

Skimming through her art, we obviously point out her art preferences: Italian Renaissance. She poured out his love for the masters of art.

“I especially love Italian Renaissance masters like Leonardo, Raphael, Botticelli, northern masters Albrecht Durer, Hieronymus Bosch, Pieter Bruegel the Elder, Peter Paul Rubens, Jan Vermeer and Bartholomeus van der Helst, master of Dutch still-life Willem Claesz Heda and Pieter Claesz, Spanish Diego Velazquez and Francisco de Goya, Salvador Dali (not classical but equal in painting skills), French Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres, Jacques Louis David, Americans John Singer Sargent and Edward Hopper (the last one also not classic), Russian Ilya Repin, Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin, Kazimir Malevich, etc., etc., etc.”

Petrova didn’t hesitate to share more about the main character of all of her popular digital painting.

“Zarathustra has a real talent for acting and being a model. Actually, he is a natural-born artist and he knows he is making art, and he is always very friendly to photographers. He knows who is a photographer and begins to flatter these people—amazing how he knows!”

“My other inspiration was the internet. I dreamt of creating an internet meme that would be beautiful and clever; this virus should bring some information, some stimulus to know more. ”

The Russian artist’s desire was to make her kitty famous and it worked! Zarathustra is the Internet meme cat with the funniest name “LOLcat”. Besides, she talked about the amount of knowledge that she has achieved during the project.

“Making this project brought a lot of knowledge for me also: I studied the style of old masters, their technique, to make paintings look as if they are real paintings made by old masters. I am very pleased if a museum that has original paintings in its collection reposts my artworks.”
