Cat Got Locked Up In The Fridge Then Acted Like Nothing Happens, Turns Out She Is Obsessed With Doing It

Summer sometimes is unbearable with the scorching heat, and we have figured many ways to keep the heat away: dip yourself in the pool, eat ample amounts of ice cream and ice cones, wear short clothes, drink a lot of water,… But the most common way is to stay in the shade and turn on the air conditioner for that chilly, breezy air, right? Well, that’s what most people do, for Tali – the 4 years old barn cat, she would jump right in the refrigerator to cool off!

That’s right. In the fridge. Pretty strange thing for a cat to do, but also pretty cool!

Every time Tali’s owner Christine opens the fridge, Tali won’t hesitate even a sec and jump right in. Christine detected Tali’s peculiar habit when she accidentally locked the cat up in the fridge once! Don’t worry, no fatality here, because Christine soon found her ‘chillin’ in the fridge, as happy as a clam. This was the odd one out of all ‘curiosity killed the cat’ cases when it actually fascinated her!

Don’t mind her, she’s just ‘chiilin’

However, claiming the fridge her hideout isn’t the only weird behavior of Tali, as this cute lady has many more. Christine said: “Tali is a 4-year-old barn cat, and we don’t know her entire breed, but we do know she’s half Maine Coon. She’s always been a water cat and absolutely loves sitting in the running shower and lounging in dripping sinks, but the fridge was a short-lived funny story.”

One time, when Christine was showering, Tali ambushed her, then jumped in the bath and splashed the water around like she was playing with it. Since then, the feline has been jumping in and out with Christine, which usually takes Christine an extra 15 minutes drying her up.

“I think she simply jumped in for the same reasons most cats would — to get into a place they’re not supposed to be,” the owner explained her thoughts. Quite a reasonable explanation for our feline friends, as they are naturally curious. However, cats are predatory species, so they hunt for their food. As hunters, they are always aware of their surroundings as a means of survival.

She later went on Quora and asked for reasons why a cat would be jumping inside the fridge and got satisfying answers, here is Kathleen Vilmure’s reply: “I think the refrigerator is just a very tempting place to be explored because of its depth, compartments, drawers, shelves, things on the shelves and mysterious spaces behind things on the shelves,”

Meanwhile, Dorothy Peck thinks that this strange behavior has everything to do with delicious food and its tantalizing odor, which would attract a cat’s senses.

Stacie Taylor Cornett, on the other hand, feels that cats like fridges as much as they like cabinets — because they’re “hidey-holes: ” They prefer enclosed areas, which are suitable for their ambushing habit.

After asking for advice on Quora and other social media, she realized that Tali is not the only cat who sneaked in the fridge, as some feline friends around the world also behave like her! So it’s less of peculiar cat behavior and more of a catspiracy

But the fridge ‘raid’ is not Tali’s favorite thing anymore, as Christine said: “She’s now a huge and fluffy cat and couldn’t fit in the fridge very easily, but she really hasn’t tried in years. She’s content lounging in sinks these days, demanding we turn on the faucet for her!”

FrozenFoodGuy – an Imgur user, was the first person who posted Tali the fridge cat’s story on the site, and got more than 7,000 upvotes and over 158,700 views! “I think for Tali, it’s a cozy, secluded spot. Cats like to hide. Why would this cat choose a fridge as her favorite spot? Possibly because she associates it with a place she normally can’t go, that is forbidden to go to, or where food comes from.”

FrozenFoodGuy also added on why he thought the post about the fridge cat went viral: “Imgur loves cute cats! I think it [the post] also reminds people of another popular repost of a Husky that crawls into the fridge. But being a cat makes it a bit more unexpected.”

The Imgur user commented on pets acting strangely: “I think once you start understanding their behavior, it all makes a lot more sense!”. He’s absolutely right, but to really understand their manners, you have to truly love and learn how to care for your pets!
