Cat Hangs Around A Hospital For A Year, Ends Up Getting Hired As A Security Cat

As working people, we all know how hard it is to get a job, especially during the worldwide pandemic that has been going on for over a year now. Well, unlike us, things seem to be going pretty easy on Elwood the cat, who is now the security staff of Epworth Hospital in Richmond, Australia. A cat as a staff member? It’s hard to believe I know.

It all started when one of the hospital staff, Chantel Trollip, noticed that there was a little cat that always hung around the hospital. He was just doing his things, minding his own business, and it lasted for about a year. Then one day she showed up at work and saw that the little guy already had his own staff ID hanging on his collar.

For almost a year-round, Epworth Hospital had become Elwood’s favorite hang-out spot. In an interview with Bored Panda, hospital pathologist Chantel Trollip shared that e came there every day, wandering around at the front gate, but never really went in. If he wasn’t sunbathing, then he would be “checking” all the people coming in and out of the hospital. Seemed like he already had it in him, the security guard material.

Like every day, Chantel went to work and walked past Elwood on the way. However, that day, she noticed something different dropping from the tabby’s collar. She took a closer look, and apparently, Elwood had been hired by the hospital to be on the security team of Epworth.

“I first noticed his ID badge on him in June. I was actually having a case of the sads that day, but seeing his ID badge turned my whole mood around!” explained Trollip. “When I first saw him, he wasn’t wearing anything, so I assumed he was a stray. Then someone put a collar and tag on him and now most recently he’s got his own ID badge, which is identical to our actual staff badges down to the call codes on the back.”

When was asked about the ‘work efficiency’ of the new security member, Chantel said that his routine actually remained the same: checking on guesses or sunbathing. Well, why bother changing when that was the reason you got hired in the first place right?

“He is lovely and friendly, but not overly affectionate. He enjoys a good pat but likes to keep things short and move around a fair bit. He is on the security team, after all, has to make sure everyone coming and going gets checked,”

Well, there was one thing he indeed did every well: stopping potential criminal activities!

“I think any potential criminals are thwarted by his sweetness when passersby see him! He has a very sweet chirp of a meow and I think anyone with any ill will would automatically change their plans upon hearing it and so I assume this is his way of getting the job done.”

All the hospital staff thought he was a stray, but he actually lived just across the street!

Seeing Elwood coming every day, everybody just assumed that he was a stray. Not until recently that they found out he actually had a family with a twin brother named Jake. His house was actually pretty close, just across the street.

Looking from a working person’s perspective, isn’t Elwood’s life an absolutely desirable one? Landing the job without any effort, being loved by literally everyone, working so close to home, if he were a human, he sure would be envied by many. Luckily, he is a cat, and who wouldn’t love a cute hard-working pawsome colleague like Elwood?
