Kitten Brings His Stuffed Dragon BFF To The Vet To Keep Him Safe

What is more precious than when you know you have a BFF by your side? A friend in need is a friend indeed for this little stray cat named Ponyo when he was about to have his important surgery for his better life ahead.

Once upon a time, there was a tiny furball kept meowing desperately, asking for help in the neighborhood of Florida. A kind woman Samantha Smart appeared to rescue him and add him to the family although she didn’t have any intention to have more pet.

“He had the whole neighborhood working together to find and trap him. We have one cat already so we weren’t really looking to add another, but it felt like Ponyo was meant for us!”

Before taking him to the neuter surgery, Violet, Samantha’s daughter, knew that Ponyo needed a huge emotional support during the operation. Violet made up her mind to give Ponyo the poor kitten a greeny dragon plushie with a cute pair of purple wings to keep him company.

“My daughter Violet spent a while picking out the perfect friend for him to sleep with and settled on Dragon.” Samantha explained.

“He sleeps with Dragon every night and spends a lot of his time dragging him around the house!”

The kitty was in love with his new buddy immediately, Samantha was relieved so she took both of them to the vet. The main purpose was to make Ponyo braver and safer since he was so smol and the surgery seemed like something scary to him. Dragon the stuffed toy was there to support Ponyo and it worked!

As soon as Ponyo and his companion came to Operation Catnip, a spay-neuter organization that primarily works with non-owned free-roaming community cats, everyone paid attention to the kitten lurking behind his beloved Dragon friend. The staff knew that they had to bring Dragon plushie along the way with Ponyo during the surgery to reassure his nervous state of mind.

Melissa Jenkins, the Operations Director for Operation Catnip said that “Ponyo is a happy and healthy kitten.”

“Thanks to his mom, who found him and took him into her home, as well as our Kitten Shelter Diversion Program, Ponyo has had access to important vaccinations and spay-neuter surgery which helped to set him up for a healthy life ahead.” – she continued.

The best part was the staff also did the same service with the green dragon toy as Ponyo, they put his BFF next to him. Ponyo’s life was changing every second with his plushie companion and the operation was successful. The Dragon stuffed toy nailed it.

“When members of the public find kittens outdoors, we encourage them to foster the kittens in their home rather than take them to shelters or rescues, which are already very full, especially at this time of year, and which don’t always have the capacity to help with the surge of kittens.”- Jenkins explained about the Kitten Shelter Diversion Program‘s mission.

Moreover, she added the Kitten Shelter Diversion Program is a partnership between Operation Catnip and the community to help abandoned kittens and keep them out of some overcrowded shelters that couldn’t provide enough love.

“Operation Catnip provides support by way of supplies and veterinary care for the kittens, and once they ‘graduate’ from the program (have their spay-neuter surgery), we ask that those caregivers then take on the responsibility of finding them homes!”

“In addition, we ask that the caregivers are very thorough about getting the whole family fixed — we want them to bring us the mother cat for sterilization too, as well as any other unaltered cats from the area where the kittens were found.” – Jenkins also posted a rehome list for the kittens have a new loving family.

“We can even loan out humane live traps to them to catch any cats that are too feral to pick up by hand. It’s critical to ending the cycle of reproduction for that group and making sure no more kittens are born to them next year! Ponyo was found outdoors in the neighborhood, and his mom, Samantha, searched for a mother cat and siblings for several days, but never located any others. Ponyo ended up working his magic and they decided to keep him themselves, using the Kitten Shelter Diversion Program to start his new life on the right foot!”
