Cats, unfortunately, go missing on a regular basis. These fiercely independent creatures frequently decide that it is time to embark on a coming-of-age adventure of discovery, only to return a few days later, all thin and whiney.
However, some cats go missing for such an extended period of time that we fear the worst and grudgingly believe that they did not make it out into the big terrible world. As a result, it comes as a huge surprise when they return several years later, eager to retire in that cozy old house they used to call home.

After 5 years, this cat, appropriately named Tom-Tom, was able to find his way back to his family. “When my sister got Tom-Tom many years ago, she worked at the animal shelter,” Cindi, who relayed the story, told that. “She wasn’t working there anymore when Tom-Tom vanished, but she had her friends keep a look out for him.”

Tom-Tom apparently didn’t agree with his family’s plan to relocate and instead decided to do it alone. “She relocated within the same town, and Tom-Tom vanished during the chaos. She had been looking for him for months but had almost given up hope,” Cindi added.
“She lives in a remote farming community with a lot of stray cats. For example, approximately ten years ago, a stray cat moved into my parents’ barn. Midnight is his name, and he tolerates the grandchildren. Tom-Tom was a Farm cat who was also a terrific mouser, but he was more attached to his family. My sister now resides there.”

This type of scenario isn’t uncommon because cats are quite capable of looking after themselves and living in the outdoors.
Unfortunately, this can make it even more difficult for owners to let go when their beloved, long-lost family member goes missing in the long run; people can never completely know what happened to their beloved, long-lost family member.

Fortunately, Tom- After 5 years of territorial struggle with the local wild population, Tom appears to have seamlessly reintegrated back into family life, rebonding with his human siblings. He has a lot of interesting stories to tell!
“Since Tom-Tom was found, my sister took him to the veterinarian. He was dehydrated but otherwise in good health. He’s an all-out outdoor cat who’s made himself at home on the back porch. He appears to like being in the company of others, and Midnight seems unconcerned with him sharing his space.”

As others shared their kitten comeback stories, the story gave many people heart and hope. The most important takeaway from all of this is the significance of microchipping your pet — this is your best chance of finding your missing cat!
