Owners Thought Their Kitten Was Sick, Found Out That She Is Actually A Wolfcat

Cats come in a variety of shapes and sizes, from the fluffiest of furballs to short-hairs and bald cats. But did you know that werewolf cats exist?

Graciewolfcat, an Instagram account, recently shared a video of a kitten that their foster cat had. Because of her bald areas and unusual hair patterns, the kitten stood out among the others. A unusual natural mutation was present in the kitten when it was born. Lykoi, or Wolfcats, are cats with this mutation. The video has been seen over 23.5 million times and has received over 5 million likes.

“I chose to foster two pregnant cats found at the same colony site. They had their babies six days apart, and after a week, the two mothers teamed up and began raising all twelve babies as one big family. They looked after one other’s children as if they were their own.”

“I noticed one was looking a little thin and losing hair, so I rushed her to the vet right away to be checked out, where I was told she might have had a fever coat before, but she was otherwise good and healthy.”

“We were very worried about her health, but she started to feel better soon after and her hair began to regrow. As she grew older, I couldn’t get over how strange she appeared and how different she was from her brothers and parents.”

Bree did some research and discovered that this was a simple natural genetic mutation that was known as Lykoi or Wolf cats in cats with it

“I saw a cat that looked a lot like yours, but I didn’t think much of it. I tried to Google several sorts of cats with black and white peppered hair and bald faces as she matured, and eventually realized out she was a wolfcat, or Lykoi as she was more correctly named.”

“Based on my own study, I’ve discovered that a wolfcat, technically known as a Lykoi, is an ordinary domestic cat that is from a natural genetic mutation among feral cat colonies, which is where her mums came from,” Bree explains. She only has one coat of fur and molts every 6 months or so. Like a wolf’s coat, her fur can be rubbed forward and backward. She has delicate skin, so keeping an eye on the grease and oil buildup around her face and feet will be very important.”

“My greatest memory of Gracie is when she was a tiny bald baby, and I used to enjoy kissing her and inhaling her. She has a scent about her that makes me want to kiss her. I still catch a whiff of her old newborn perfume now and then, which I adore. It’s most likely one of those strange mom things, haha. I want to kiss her, but she pushes my face away. I’m enamored with her big, lovely eyes!”

The kitten only has one coat of fur and sheds much more often than most cats

“She looks like a werewolf, yet she’s just like any other house cat. After doing some investigation, I discovered she only had one coat of fur and shed frequently throughout her life. I discovered that she was a natural genetic variation from the wild colony where her mother lived.”

Gracie is happy and healthy and has a loving home

“I recently posted videos on TikTok with 228.1k followers about her tale, and she has since gone viral. Her video has 23.5 million views and 5 million likes. She currently has 26.5k Instagram followers! That’s really cool! We also discovered that wolfcats are worth roughly $3,000, so obtaining a valuable cat for free is also really amazing!”

“She is doing amazing and in perfect health!” Bree said when we asked how Gracie is doing right now. She enjoys napping and playing! Whether she’s following the red dot or playing with the pointer itself, the laser pointer is her favorite toy.”

Bree elaborated on Gracie’s characteristics, saying, “Gracie now drives in the vehicle and visits her grandparents’ house!” She rides in a bubble backpack that her grandmother bought her! Gracie’s bubble backpack serves as her playhouse while she isn’t out traveling. She isn’t really chatty. When I’m sitting, she likes to come up to my feet and rub them, practically hugging them. Gracie does not sleep with me; she prefers to sleep on the couch. She likes to sit at the window and chase her own tail. Gracie enjoys scratching on her scratching boards and napping.”

“I have one of her mums, which I do not believe is her bio mom,” the owner said of the other animals she has. I believe her biological mother was the black woman who, sadly, became ill and died a few months ago. I also have my tiny dachshund, who is 14 years old! They’re in love with one other and get along swimmingly!”
