Photographer Captures Extremely Funny And Cute Photos Of Japan’s Stray Cats (30+ Pics)

Japan is a cat lover’s paradise, and cats are likely to enjoy living there as well. In other words, it’s a love that both of them share. Even the stray animals appear to have a nice time over there. They are well fed by others, have access to fresh fish, and have plenty of company.

Masayuki Oki roams the streets in search of stray cats to trap. Not to place them in a shelter or anything like that, but to take amazing shots of them for his Instagram account. And he’s a natural at it. So much so that he now has 248k followers on Twitter.

Here's what the artist had to say about himself and his photography: "I have loved cats since I was a child. My family environment did not allow me to have a cat, so I had a one-sided love for cats until I was almost 30 years old. Also, I didn't really pick up a camera until I was 30 years old, but I had to use it for my work. At first, I was very bad at it. However, I gradually learned about how fun cameras were and it became a hobby."

#3 Awwww, mom…

"At the age of 36, I was resting in a park during a break from work when I met a cat named "Busanyan Senpai" and fell in love with it at first sight. It was a gray cat with a spiral pattern like an American shorthair. In Japan, such cats are usually kept at home, but this cat was outside. It was also very plump. I wondered how it was living there. I wondered how they lived, and the next day I started to take photos of cats as a serious subject."

#5 “Mummy, couldn’t we just find a wider ledge?”

"Here's a pic of Busanyan Senpai. When I posted this photo on Instagram, people from overseas praised me so much (*Overseas people praise me more than Japanese people, they say things like "Awesome!") I started uploading one or two photos of cats to Instagram every day.

I started taking pictures of cats as a hobby, but later on, it became my job."

#7 Neither the sharks nor the jets were ready for… The Cats!

"Cats are cute in their presence, even when they are sleeping or from their rear. Cats are cute on the outside, but they are also very cute on the inside, where their fragile emotions are easily expressed in their attitudes, and I realized that the relationships between cats and people are as complex as with humans, and that each cat has its own identity. I like to express this in my photographs, where the moments and expressions reveal the individuality of each cat without overlooking them."

"In addition, there are many anthropomorphic works in Japanese culture, such as "bird and animal caricatures" and ukiyo-e prints from the Edo period, in which animals stand on two legs like people and behave like people. Wouldn't it be fun to use cat photos to express this anthropomorphism?"

"I think it would make people love cats even more. I think you will feel more love for cats.

I'm waiting to capture those moments when cats just happen to appear in their natural habitat.

I want people to heal through my photos, and I want you to smile through the anthropomorphizations of cats."

#13 You’ll be all right kid, lets clean you up and find your mom!

#17 “Any questions? Yes, you in the back there with your paw up?”

#22 “I hope you don’t expect me to carry you the rest of the way.”

#23 “Yes, I’m quite comfortable, thanks. Do you happen to have a shoehorn or small crowbar on you? “
