Shelter Workers Organize This Cat’s Birthday Hoping Someone Will Adopt Her, But No One Turns Up

What is worse than having no one appeared on your birthday? We all know how sad it would be when celebrating a particular occasion all alone, and the bad luck comes to Monique the cat. This beautiful purr-day girl has been in the shelter for a quite long time, still hoping for a roof under her head.

A year ago Battersea Dogs and Cats Home threw a birthday party for this little fluff on her birthday and to show the world they were all invited to the shelter. The staff set up a purrfect decoration for Monique, posted on social media and they thought it would be a day to remember. But oh boy, no one came to the shelter and the party didn’t work out.

Let’s find out the reasons behind it with Nikki Cummins, the communications officer at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home.

No one has applied to adopt her

Monique was described as a loving and sweet cat but she was kind of shy at first. “But once she got to know the people around her, her personality shone through and she’s always happy to see us.” – Nikki said.

Mentioning her floppy birthday party, Nikki said she was famous in a while but the cat just focused on her majestic beauty and spirit.

“Monique is blissfully unaware of her newfound fame and is currently enjoying one of her many daily naps.” – explained Nikki.

“Although she would love to be in a home of her own, she’s settled into life at the cattery and is content spending quality time with our staff.” – Monique has been waiting for a potential cat mom/dad to welcome her to the house but no one turned up, sadly.

Monique’s FIV+ status is no threat to humans, but her potential owners will need to have patience

One more thing that people should be concerned about when adopting this beauty is Monique must be the only cat in the house, plus she should be in the house which has a garden to hang around. Why? Even though FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) is not transmitted to humans, that is still a condition that Monique has to be suffered from. Nikki shared about the FIV+ disease: “It is estimated to affect between 2 and 5% of the UK cat population.” When it comes to Monique’s case, potential owners need to be aware that “that there are cases where a cat will suffer from other diseases as a result of their FIV infection as it can damage their immune system.” Other than that, “Many infected cats like Monique enjoy a normal life and long lifespan with no health issues stemming from the virus.”
