Some People Started Filing Complaints About A Stray Kitty Roaming This Law Firm So They Hired Him

Although not everyone is fond of stray cats, one kitty in Brazil appeared to have all the luck in the world after receiving a job offer to appease its detractors.

Some people were irritated by Leon the cat’s presence at the reception area of the Order of Attorneys of Brazil (basically the Brazilian Bar Association) and filed complaints about it. The OAB did something incredible: it employed the cat as a lawyer to put an end to the complaints! Scroll down to read our great in-depth interview with the representatives of Dr. Leon the lawyer cat! We guarantee it will be worthwhile.

The wonderful news about the cat being an official employee of the OAB went viral after Dr. Jeanette Laredo shared it on Facebook.

Dr. Leon the lawyer Cat, who greets visitors at the OAB, has become renowned, with an Instagram profile dedicated to his antics and animal law. On Instagram, the cat has over 115,000 followers, and I’m sure some of us are envious of the attention.

To learn more about Dr. Leon the lawyer cat, we reached out to his agents on Instagram.

“It rains a lot in the state of Amapá (Amazonia) in February, so he came to OAB to get away from the rain and thunder. He was fed and kept safe in a box for a week. Until he landed a job.”

People submitted complaints against the cat because he was small and they were scared they would step on him when he came to greet people, according to the lawyer’s representatives.

“[They claimed] that because it is a serious institution, there was no room for him. As a result, the President [of the OAB] decided on his hiring and issued him with an employee badge.”

Dr. Leon may one day have his own office: “We are preparing the procedures to start an animal rights institute,” he says. Instituto Dr. Leon is the name of the institution. We will fund the NGOs in town because we are unable to house all [the animals]. We will serve as a model for Brazil to emulate.”

“Today, he is cherished by all. Even those who disliked him grew accustomed to his presence and enjoyed their time with him. President Auriney’s sofa is his favorite spot, and he enjoys playing with his toys,” the lawyer cat’s handlers revealed, adding that the employee is fed regular cat food.

“Leon was neutered two months ago and has already healed. However, veterinarians believe he had an issue with his vocal cords as a result of his ordeal as a child. We continue to look after him despite his lack of meows. This inspired us to start the institute in order to assist abused and abandoned animals.”

This isn’t the first time a cat has landed a legitimate job. For example, at an animal sanctuary, a cat named Rademenesa looks after sick animals and attempts to nurse them back to health. Because it survived an irritated respiratory tract when it was just 2 months old, the catto became a caring nurse. Check out this lovely article from Gidypet for more cute cats with jobs.

Cats have attempted to enter politics as well. Cat Time profiles numerous such felines, including Barsik the Schottish fold, who received a whopping 91.6 percent of all votes in an unofficial election for mayor of Barnaul, Siberia. Because the cat failed to register as an official candidate in the election, it was never elected mayor. Limberbutt McCubbins, a democratic Kentucky cat, and Dr. Jekyll, a fluffy orange cat, both legally registered to run for President of the United States.

What are your thoughts on Dr. Leon pursuing a career as a feline lawyer in Brazil? What are your thoughts on cats who work? Do you think the country will be better off if a cat is elected president?
