Stray Cat Wanders Into Classroom And Decides To Make It His Forever Home

Remember when we were kids and always pretending that we were sick to skip the classes? What was your motivation to have that behavior? Absolutely because the school didn’t provide what we need, specifically, cats. However, these days are modern and civilized enough to acknowledge that cats have tons of beneficial effects to help people. Cats are the best therapeutic remedy for reducing stress and anxiety, they also enhance the quality of our sleep, help children with autism to have better social and communication skills. In a third-grade classroom in Izmir, Turkey there was a ginger cat who took over the place and claimed it as his own, who was a ruler for the kids to be more disciplined, and who was unbearably adorable.

Meet Tombi!

“When he first joined our class, I noticed a change in the children’s behavior. They were more careful and stopped running around in the classroom. They couldn’t wait to come back to school the next morning (which is remarkable for some 9-year-old children).” – Said Özlem Pınar Ivaşcu, a third-grade teacher who witnessed this remarkable moment of her students.

Tombi was wandering around the school for one month, especially he kept visiting Özlem’s classroom, where all of the kids were very happy with Tombi’s presence. He didn’t seem afraid of strangers, instead, he greeted the students with his lovable paws and mature cattitude. Özlem confessed that the students were very excited about school to see the cat since then. Unlike other stray, Tombi behaved nicely, he was calm and gentle with the kids, he didn’t climb or run to mess up the classroom. Seemed like he knew where he was at.

Tombi earned a very good reputation from the children but not from their parents. One of the kid’s parents refused the benefits of having a cat in the classroom because a stray cat could increase some health problems. Özlem and the school administration had no other choice so they started to find a home for Tombi. They rushed him to the vet to have a general checkup and get him vaccinated. This is completely understandable because the children’s immune system was not fully developed yet and the parents were responsible enough to have a voice in the school.

Tombi was relocated to another place, sadly. From that day, both students in the classroom and Tombi were heartbroken. Thanks to Tombi, the kids were more focused on studying, they even didn’t run around the classroom. The teacher found suitable places for a cat to make Tombi but he seemed not interested.

“We found a house for Tombi and he stayed there for three days, but he was not happy. He stopped eating.” – Said Özlem.

“So I took him home, but here too he was not happy.” – She continued.

Tombi surely missed the students who were joyful and friendly. During the time he was away from the classroom, many kids sent out their drawings and letter to show how much they wanted Tombi to come back.

This was such a heartwarming action, Özlem once again posted the story on social media and it received a lot of positive supports. The principals of the school heard this wholesome story and how helpfully effective was Tombi so they allowed the ginger kitty back to his own stage. They finally reunited in fulfillment and happiness. The parent who once disapproved Tombi’s presence, she changed her mind for the good.

“The children were thrilled to have Tombi back in their class.” – Said Özlem.
