30 Animal Portraits Drawn So Badly, They Look Like Masterpieces

Art can take many different forms and shapes, but it always makes people question about things and try to come up with the most accurate interpretations. But what constitutes an excellent work of art? It could be something different for each person: emotions or thoughts evoked by the artwork, techniques used to make the piece, the artist and their personality, talent, and work. Hercule Van Wolfwinkle can attest to the fact that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to become a successful artist.

Phil Heckels, also known as Hercule Van Wolfwinkle, began his artistic career by doodling with his child around a year ago. He had no idea that his small painting would have such a positive impact.

When he began creating pet pictures, the artist drew everyone’s attention. The artist revealed in his interview that it all started with some “thank you” cards he was making that he decided to put on Facebook. People began to commission him to create portraits of their pets. One of the most intriguing aspects of this is that instead of paying for the photos, people can donate the money to the Turning Tides homeless organization.

Hercule was approached to inquire about his well-being. The man was pleased to reveal that he had accomplished a lot in the previous year. “I had no idea I had an interest in painting until a little over a year ago, and these few goofy sketches have flipped my life upside down (in a good way!) and seen me develop a true passion for fundraising and trying to do some good,” the artist explained. Over the course of the year, he took over 800 photographs and amassed over 100,000 social media followers. His work was also recognized by the Prime Minister and highlighted on a variety of media outlets. With his book Rubbish Pet Portraits, he was even named a Sunday Times Bestselling Author. He also managed to raise almost £110,000 for charity, making life a little bit easier for those who are struggling.

The idea of having your pet's portrait painted took on new meaning when the artist disclosed that he had received over 20,000 inquiries. The most time-consuming part, according to Hercule, is creating the pet histories and phony customer reviews, as well as administering the page, dealing with queries, mailing prints, fundraising ideas, and so on. This is why he compares commissioning a photograph to winning the lottery: you never know when or even if your request will be fulfilled.

Hercule's tale is quite remarkable, as a person who had never drawn before has done over 800 portraits in just a year, honing his skills and bringing joy to himself and others via his work.

We inquired about the artist's future intentions, to which he responded, "The plans for the future are to just keep going with the fundraising and the project for as long as feasible." I'm having a blast, and hopefully we're doing some good in the process. We have significant fundraising plans coming up shortly, and I'm excited to see where it can take us.”
